Wabasca Heavy

Stream Description

Wabasca Heavy is a blend of heavy oil production obtained by polymer injection and water flooding from the Athabasca region and typically has a 19-20 API gravity and 4.15 wt% sulphur content. The primary producer of the Wabasca Stream is Canadian Natural Resources, though other producers do connect to the Wabasca Heavy stream. Wabasca Heavy is delivered to Edmonton via the Pembina Pipeline and Rainbow Pipelines.

Most Recent Sample Details

Batch: WH-243 --- Date: December 01, 2025 --- Sample Location: Edmonton

Slightly reduced density, sulphur, and MCR, along with elevated nonanes and decanes, were observed for the December sample of Wabasca Heavy. Simulated distillation results showed a shift from the gas oil to the distillate.
