Shell Synthetic Light (SSX) is a light sweet synthetic crude produced from Shell Canada’s Scotford complex. SSX is a classic bottomless synthetic blend of hydrotreated naphtha, distillate, and gasoil. SSX yield is heavily weighted in hydrotreated gasoil, and is generally used to fill refinery catalytic cracker or hydrocracker capacity. SSX is produced exclusively from hydrogen addition processes (hydrotreating and hydrocracking).
