What is Western Canadian Blend crude?

WCB (Western Canadian Blend) is an aggregate of heavy sour crude production (21 API gravity, 3.0 wt% sulphur) in the Wainright and Hardisty regions. Unique to WCB is an agreement by the gathering systems to not use field butanes as diluent. Though there are many connections to WCB, the principal contacts would include Cenovus Energy, Husky Energy Canada, and Talisman Energy.

Western Canadian Blend contained marginally lower than average density and sulphur, which is to be expected for the month of March based on seasonality. Elevated BTEX and C7 x C10 content as well as reduced butanes was also observed.
